"On April 29th, 2003 our
lives were forever changed and our path towards friendship with Gifts
of Love was set in motion. Our pregnancy was only 24 weeks and 1 day
along, but labor began and could not be stopped. Less than an
hour after arriving at the hospital our first child was born
— a baby boy named Owen. At 680 grams (about 1.7 pounds) Owen
was so premature that he had no capability to breathe on his own. The
first two days of his life passed with no major setbacks, but on his
third day with us he suffered massive bleeds in both sides of his
brain. Over the next week the damage done by these bleeds
became more and more apparent and the likelihood that we would soon
have to give Owen back to God became an ever present part of our
thoughts. Owen fought bravely, but we were powerless to
help. Eventually his battle ended peacefully on the
18th day of his life.
"Owen taught us both
more about humanity, courage and strength of will than either of us
knew was possible. It is with joy and honor that we are now
trying to help other sick babies and their families through the works
of the Gifts of Love organization. This Web site is a part of our
contribution."
