Giraffe OmniBed
Gifts of Love was delighted to provide the first Giraffe OmniBed to the
Brookwood NICU. The OmniBed is an incredible piece of equipment that
allows critically ill infants to be cared for in the most nurturing and
safe environment possible.
The OmniBed provides uncompromised access, making medical procedures
easier to perform. At the touch of a button, the OmniBed can be
converted from an incubator to a radiant warmer. The versatility of
this bed allows a baby to remain in it throughout their NICU stay. This
eliminates stress and trauma that may be incurred when a baby is moved
from bed to bed.
For all of these reasons, the OmniBed has been
a tremendous asset that has improved the quality of care that can be
provided by the Brookwood NICU.
Multibed
Cribs for Multiples Multiple
births (twins,
triplets, etc.) increases the challenges and complications that a
newborn may experience. As the number of multiple births
increases, neonatal intensive-care units are moving towards providing
the option of co-bedding. Gifts of Love has purchased a few
special cribs which are designed to hold up to three babies at once.
Co-bedding amongst siblings is
believed to promote growth, development and stability. It has
shown positive physiological and psychological effects on both the
infants and their parents. Co-bedding maintains the closeness
the babies experienced in the womb, reducing the stress of
separation.
The cribs
are also reassuring and convenient for parents of multiple babies. They
allow parents to remain with all of their babies simultaneously while
they are visiting the NICU, reducing stress and anxiety.
These special
cribs have been a wonderful contribution to the NICU. They
have been frequently used and greatly appreciated.
