Thanks
to the generosity of our donors as well as the enthusiasm of our
volunteers, we have been able to undertake many valuable
projects. Our projects have been diverse in nature, but their
focus has been consistent: to aid high-risk infants and their families.
Currently we are working on renovations to the
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Brookwood Medical
Center. We have also used the funds that we receive to provide
various types of medical
equipment, financial
aid and education.
Renovation of NICU Foyer Area
& Parenting Rooms
Parents of
critically ill babies commonly spend many long hours in the hospital
while their babies are receiving care. In an effort to provide
a more pleasant and nurturing environment, Gifts of Love is in the
process of renovating both the parenting rooms and the foyer area of
the NICU at the Brookwood Medical Center.
The foyer area is the first part of the NICU that the parents,
families, and visitors of the babies are exposed to. This area
includes a small waiting room that is also frequently used by NICU
visitors. Renovation of the foyer will provide a more
pleasant, calming introduction to those entering the oftentimes
intimidating and stressful surroundings of the NICU.
A
parenting room can provide a much needed place of respite for parents
with infants in the NICU. It is a room where parents can spend time
alone with their babies, becoming more comfortable with the special
care they may require. A parenting room also provides a place
for new mothers to pump breast milk in private. In grave
circumstances, it is where grieving parents can hold their babies for
the last time.
Donated
artwork (as pictured above) will help to put the finishing touches on
our renovations.
